Illustrations of the use of the Sun as a symbol. The Sun is a very important symbol in South Asia and in Nepal where it has been used since ancient times. It is god in the Hindu pantheon and worshiped daily. In State regalia it is also used from Coat of Arms, National Flags to the personal flag of the King and Maharajah. Both the Shah & Rana family are of the Suryavanshi lineage and traditionaly held great power until recently in Nepal. In India many of the leading Rajput families are also of the Suryavanshi lineage.
