Nepal, ca middle 20th Century.
A small villager box kothimora kukri / khukuri from Eastern Nepal, the heartland of the Rai, Limbu, Sunuwar (aka Kiranti / Kirat) ethnic groups that traditionally enlisted in the 7th & 10th Gurkha Rifles.
The Kirat group is mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures, the Vedas as being hunters on the himalayan slopes.
Overrall 33 cm, Blade 22 cm, Handle 11 cm, Belly 3,8 cm, Spine 0,5 cm, Drop 6,6 cm.
Wooden handle of eastern design, sirupate blade and a box kothimora scabbard in wood, dressed in black velvet and metal (silver?) chapes with floral design.
Complete with karda and chakmak
Possibly a village headman's Kukri.
